Warning: May Cause Smaller Trucks to Insecurity Spiral

This 2023 Ford F-350 Super Duty Lariat in Race Red isn't for the faint of heart-or the light of tow. With just 25,270 miles, a thunderous 7.3L V8 PFI OHV 16V (Federal 430HP) engine, 4WD, and a smooth-shifting 10-speed automatic, this truck is basically horsepower with cupholders.

The Lariat trim brings luxury to the job site, tech to the trail, and serious muscle to whatever you hitch behind it. Whether you're hauling heavy loads or just a reputation for overkill, this F-350 delivers it all with a commanding presence and a growl that turns heads and scares trailers into submission.

Need to tow a mountain? Probably. Want to look like you could? Definitely.

I ordered a new 2024 F350 XL, 8' Bed, 4x4, Diesel. It is a nightmare, nothing but problems from the beginning. Truck now has 11,000 miles and it has been back at Ford service 11 times. I bought brand new for one reason, because I needed reliable and didn't have time to deal with problems. This truck has been totally the opposite. Nonstop problems that Ford can't get fixed, I'm back at service over and over costing me down time, lost work, and right now I would be afraid to even drive it out of town or any distance. And there is no accountability from Ford... if this were a TV that didn't work you would return it for your money back, Ford just short of shrugs there shoulders and says "sorry bring it in again". Some of the issues: At only 500 miles the computer/CAN communications seem to crash, truck faulted for everything, logged 30 some codes, some Ford didn't even have info on. Ford reset OBD but never found a resolution. From the beginning driver window intermittently stopped without closing all the way. Ford ignored my complaints until it got so bad Ford got it stuck one day while they had it in service. In the end it was like 6-8 trips back to service and 3 new window modules put in to get that issue resolved. Various rattles and clunks in the front end and steering. Ford found numerous issues including a fender installed wrong, and tie rods that needed to be adjusted. Still problems with the steering that they can't fix because they can't get parts. 7 weeks now and I'm afraid to leave town with the truck. Truck displays "warning, may not start/re-start service immediately" and shuts down the next time you put it in park. After re-start the message is going, no faults or indication as to why, no advice from Ford. Gauge cluster illumination (backlights) turn themselves on randomly when the truck is sitting parked untouched. I seemed impressed at first how smooth the 10-Speed transmission went through the gears. Then I started noticing sometimes it will slip, and then BANG, slam into the gear on an up-shift. When I put the truck in park, start to get out and pull my foot off the brake, it rolls away, to the point you react to jump back in, then the transmission catches. AC sometimes turns itself back on automatically after turning it off. Trailer brake monitoring is flaky, often has messages about trailer light problems when there is not even a trailer connected. That's some of my problems. I totally got ripped off. With accessories I got about $70,000 into a brand new truck I'm afraid to use and costing me time and money taking it back to service nonstop. There is no good solution for me. I can't buy another one. There is no good outcome that won't cost me 10's of thousands of dollars more.

I bought this as a daily driver and to pull 20,000 loads 1 to 2 times a month. We have two other F350 platinum trucks srw with the 7.3 gas engine. It works well for what we use them for. Just needed a little more capacity and stability for when we have a really heavy load. The XLT I bought was nicely equipped although I am dumbfounded by why a dealer would not order these with the goose neck prep package. I also wish that Ford would offer an Ultimate XLT package that would include all of the most optioned items and include a power passenger seat. Overall very happy with the truck.
